Hourglass Couloir

I spent this past Sunday skiing in Garnett Canyon. We had a pre-dawn start with the thought of summiting the middle Teton. As we progressed up the canyon we decided time would not allow a safe summit bid so we switched our objective to the Hourglass Couloir, a north facing shot of Nez Perce. It was a fairly steep boot pack up, breaking trail with our hands for part of the way. The view from the top was outstanding while the best snow was found closer to the bottom.

Here is a shot of the Middle Teton above Garnett Canyon meadows. The Cave Couloir, which I skied in September looks like a big powder field.

Looking down as we near the top.
For the final push to the top we opted to leave our skies behind as you can see the snow is quite rocky.
Here is Cloudveil Dome in the foreground and the South Teton behind it. I like the ridge leading over from Nez Perce and that snowy couloir in the center looks enticing.
A panorama of the south middle and Grand Tetons

Finally some good snow at the bottom. It was a little too winded effected up high.
Looking back up the couloir

Nice pics Jon...looks like some good snow down below & pretty burly up top. I take it snow conditions are pretty stable in the tetons.

sweet job jon. you still have small nuts for not skiing the Southwest Couloir on the Middle Teton. Suggestion: ski with less people when tackling large objectives.
